OpenAI Plans to Introduce AI App Monetization Through GPT Store

OpenAI, an artificial intelligence (AI) firm, has begun the process of allowing creators of generative pre-trained transformers (GPTs) to monetize their personalized AI systems. This initiative will be facilitated through the newly launched GPT Store, which serves as a marketplace for personalized AI applications.

The company shared its ideas for making money with GPTs when it introduced the GPT Store in a blog post on Wednesday, January 10. ""In the first quarter of 2024, we'll kick off a GPT builder revenue program." Initially, builders in the U.S. will get paid according to how much users interact with their GPTs," the post explained. Initially, the store will be accessible to users on paid ChatGPT plans. Located within the ChatGPT website, the GPT Store offers users the opportunity to explore and create GPTs tailored for various tasks, such as teaching math or designing stickers.

The GPT Store is organized into eight sections: top picks, Dall-E, writing, productivity, research and analysis, programming, education, and lifestyle. Specialized GPTs in Dall-E can generate images from textual descriptions, while the writing section focuses on refining text. Productivity GPTs aim to enhance efficiency, while research and analysis GPTs assist in interpreting information. The programming section supports coding and learning, while the education section helps users explore ideas and revisit skills. The lifestyle section provides tips on travel, workouts, style, and food.

According to Reuters, OpenAI postponed the launch of its GPT Store in December to make improvements based on feedback. This delay coincided with the unexpected removal and subsequent reinstatement of OpenAI CEO Sam Altman, amid employee concerns.

Furthermore, on January 10, OpenAI announced the launch of ChatGPT Team, a paid version tailored for companies to ensure private usage within the workplace. Priced at $25 to $30 per user per month, this version segregates a company's data to maintain confidentiality.
